Part 8: Blow This

It was as if all his memories were flowing from the white stone into his head. Everything…from his exact birthplace, to how his mom and dad ended up being the leaders of the planet when his grandparents had an unfortunate spaceship collision, to them sending him and his sister to military school even though he didn’t want to go, to never being able to get even close to how good his sister was in everything they tested him on, to being chosen to accompany her on the super-secret mission to Planet Portania, and how he was so overjoyed that despite his failings, he still got to do something important and make his mom and dad proud, to receiving that odd transmission from the Goddess Reshiram, to Estoc wrecking their ship and their brains at the same time…everything was now crystal clear. In fact, if he wasn’t mistaken…this white stone was the very same Light Stone that Mr. Chill wanted to revive! The same one that ordered Estoc to interfere with their landing in the first place. It worked as a memory-restoring orb, too? Then again, it did look very similar to one, with the only difference being those three round indentations…

“YOUR SUPERIORS ARE LYING TO YOU, YOUNG ONE…BUT IT IS NOT TOO LATE FOR YOU TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT AGAIN…”

“Whoa!” Rigley jerked back. He wasn’t sure, but it felt like only he could hear the voice.

“Now do you get it?” asked Ligray.

To her surprise, and Team Pecha’s, he flashed a light pattern from his fingers that automatically dissolved his electric cage and short-circuited the electric weapons. “Yeah…I get it, all right…” He floated up to her, glaring. “You think you’re the only one who’s mad? Well, guess what? I never got to do anything awesome in my life. You hear what everyone says about me? It’s always ‘Ligray’s brother’ this or ‘Ligray’s brother’ that, no matter where we go. Why don’t you ever give me a chance to prove myself?”

For the first time, Ligray was at a loss for words.

“Yeah, that’s right. You always think you have to be the best person you can be, whether it’s for our mom and dad or Mr. Chill and Mike. If you could just LISTEN to me for just a second, you’d know that I can help, too! Because right now, I remember everything, and I can tell you exactly why I’m not a psychotic mess like you are right now.”

Ligray continued to stare in disbelief. “…I’m listening.”

“Commanders O-Bem and O-Beema only gave you back a tiny bit of the truth, while at the same time, erased some really important memories from you. And how do I know? Because that memory-restoring orb right there is different from the one they used on you.”

Ligray dropped Amy and Chikorita in shock. “…What now?” That wasn’t the same memory-restoring orb that O-Bem and O-Beema subjected her to? What was going on in here?

“SHH…DO NOT SAY SUCH THINGS OUT LOUD, AND DO NOT LET THEM KNOW I HAVE COME HERE WITH THEM. OTHERWISE…”

Rigley gulped and covered his mouth.

“What’s this now about what we did?”

From the hole in the ceiling, the high-society-looking Beheeyems came floating down; O-Bem with his black tie on the left, and O-Beema with her black scarf on the right.

“Ligray…” O-Bem turned to her. “What’s going on? Why haven’t you executed the invaders yet? And why hasn’t Rigley joined you yet?”

O-Beema then glanced at the white stone. “You’re right, Rigley. That does look different from what we used to give Ligray’s memories. Why don’t we take a closer look?”

Rigley gulped.

“GOOD JOB, KID,” whispered the telepathic voice in his head sardonically. “NOW YOU, AS YOU YOUNG ONES SAY, ‘BLEW IT’.”

Rigley clenched his fist. He knew he only had seconds to act. “Oh yeah? Well, blow THIS!”

He poured all his strength into his Telekinesis to lift his sister and throw her head-first into the Light Stone before anyone could react.

To Ligray’s surprise, there actually were gaps in her memories that began to be completely filled up. As it turned out, Rigley was right all along. Amy and Chikorita were the ones who rescued them, introduced them around town, gave them a place to live, and so much more…she didn’t understand why this memory-restoring device didn’t work like this the first time O-Bem and O-Beema subjected her to it. Wait…there was something different about this device…and familiar. It was white, sure…but there were also three indentations in it. Wait. Was this the same stone that Mr. Chill tried to awaken? But that was impossible. It was frozen and silenced at the very top of Monochrome Tower when Kyurem was awakened. How did it get here?

“LIKE I SAID…I HAVE MY WAYS,” said the voice inside her head. “WELCOME BACK.”

And her frighteningly glowing red eyes reverted back to their normal green color again.

Rigley noticed, and nearly jumped for joy. “Sis! You’re ba—!”

Ligray interrupted him. In fact, her attention was elsewhere. “Commanders O-Bem and O-Beema…?”

“Yes…?” If there was any doubt in O-Beema’s mind, it was gone. Something was clearly wrong about that memory-restoring orb.

O-Bem became impatient. “What are you doing? Finish them off!” he ordered, pointing to Amy and Chikorita, who immediately readied themselves into a defensive posture, ready to attack.

Ligray turned around to face them. “Did you honestly try to fool me into killing my best friends? You told me that I got all my memories back. But how come I never remembered everything they did for me?”

Amy and Chikorita gasped.

O-Beema held her ground. “Your mother and father, the High Commanders, specifically ordered us to bring you back and prepare you for the invasion of Planet Portania by any means possible, and you will do as you are ordered, young lady!”

“I don’t believe you,” hissed Ligray. “If there really are cameras behind our eyes, and everything we’ve seen was being recorded for them to see, they would see more than anyone else how nice Amy and Chikorita are! They’d see how nice everyone in Tao Village was! I don’t care how warlike and primitive the planet is—I don’t think they would force us to fight everyone on the front lines with everything we’ve seen. Let’s ask them, just to be sure.”

O-Bem glared. “No. You will NOT.” He snapped his fingers.

All of a sudden, an odd grid-covered black-and-white space materialized around them. By impulse, Amy and Chikorita shot a Flamethrower and Magical Leaf, respectively, at O-Bem and O-Beema, sending them crumpling to the floor…but not for long.

“Trick room? Seriously? I’ve gotten past worse stuff in military school.” Ligray teleported to Amy and Chikorita, grabbed them, and then teleported again to Rigley and the Light Stone. “Guys? We’re outta here.”

“HEY!” shouted O-Bem, wishing he never forgot how to use Teleport as the four of them absconded with the mysterious stone.

“But did you see it, honey?” asked O-Beema. “That stone has been switched. I’m not sure how, but it somehow gave them back all their original memories. Even we don’t have memory-granting technology that operates at such a level of efficiency. And I have a feeling that I’ve seen it somewhere before.”

“Either way, it appears we will have to resort to Plan B. Let’s go, darling.”

I read in Team Beeheeyem's bio that they could give pokemon false memories, so I was looking forward to finding out when exactly that would come into play in this story.
