Description

Genres: Sci-fi/Magical Girl (sort of)

Summary: Not too long ago, the last surviving member of a once great alien race raised a being with the power to potentially change the course of galactic history—at the cost of his life at the hands of alien bounty hunters who have their own desires for her power. One day, however, this creature lands on Earth and changes the life of a 4th grade girl named Amy forever. Amy instantly takes a liking to the creature named Pluffy and wants to keep her as a new friend, but she soon discovers that such a wish comes with a steep price. The alien bounty hunters will stop at nothing to obtain Pluffy’s power for themselves, and the only way that Amy can keep Pluffy safe is to team up with her—and use her powers to fight back.

Oh my gosh, guys, I'm so excited about this series!! For almost 10 years now, I've wanted to make an original sci-fi story featuring Amy Lightbloom as the main character, but none of the concepts I was able to think of (mostly involving space adventures) seemed to fit her as a character, much less serve towards making a naturally-flowing story that didn't seem forced. So I'd been playing around with group stuff on dA for the past four years and/or writing fanfiction to improve my writing and art abilities in the hopes that I'd be able to think of something really good eventually, and when that time came, I'd be able to execute it so much better.

So then one day last summer, while I was toying with the idea of seeing what would happen if I turned In the Shadow of the Empress into an original series, my boyfriend noticed that the main character was of course just a 4th grader, so he joked that I could make it into a magical girl series. It seemed absurd at the time, and I dismissed it since the magical girl genre seemed like one that was unfortunately too easy to make fun of and not take seriously. (Even though Tokyo Mew Mew is a notable magical girl series that I drew much of my artistic inspiration and drawing style from.) But then last December, while I was finishing up Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, I couldn't help but wonder what *if* this happened to be a magical girl series
—and ended up with the coolest idea ever.

While the basic concept was inspired by the genre, I'd say that given the way I ended up twisting things around, it's about 25% playing the tropes straight and 75% deconstruction. And if I were to make a comparison to existing popular media, I'd say that this is Lilo and Stitch meets Ben 10. But really, I feel like this is truly its own unique story, and it'll be 8 (or maybe even 9 or 10) books long in total of about 221 or so pages each, making it the longest comic series I'll ever create.

I do plan to start releasing pages by March 21st, and try to release at least two pages per week, and maybe even more if possible. Since I've already completed the layouts and sketches of the first book, I'll be working on trying to get a backlog of as many finished pages as I can. Look forward to it, as well as a future journal with more details!
