Event 4 Day 4

"Almost done...."

In a hole in the side of a cliff, lit by only the dim light of a fading candle, a Mincinno and a Shinx sat on the ground, working hard on a pair of figurines carved out of wood. Wood shavings, carving tools, even fireworks they had taken home as souvenirs from last summer; many extraneous items such as berries and scarves lay scattered all over their floor. The Mincinno had long given up on nagging her Shinx partner to clean up the mess, and besides, she wanted to get the figurines done by tonight. These weren’t just any ordinary figurines; they were in the shape of the two most famous Elgyems from the Rescuers’ guild, Ligray and her brother Rigley, otherwise known as Team Elgyem, or LGM, as some called them. This was the home of Team Starstruck, comprised of a Mincinno named Bell and a Shinx named Max, and they were creating a little carving of Team Elgyem to give to them as a present.

Finally, the last of the paint had been applied. "And...done!" Bell wiped off the sweat from the furry bangs across her forehead.

"This is so awesome!" whispered Max in happiness.

"I can’t wait…to send this…to…Team…Elgyem…" Bell yawned. It was late in the night, and she had desperately been fighting off sleep all this time. She finally took the liberty to conk out.

Max’s eyes also drooped and grew heavy, though he also wanted to pack up the present the same night, too. He grabbed the box they were planning to use and proceeded to wrap it with green wrapping paper, all bought recently from PK’s shop.

Unbeknownst to Max, the candlelight was fading more quickly than he anticipated, and soon, it sputtered out. “Aw, man…” he groaned, but he couldn’t deny his drooping eyelids any longer. Before he went out, though, he made a valiant attempt to grab the Elgyem figurines and place them into the box.

Or at least, what he thought were the figurines.

The next morning, their eyes shot open, and they realized one thing:

They had overslept.

They had heard that the best time to catch Team Elgyem was the early morning, when they could be found waking up in the famous Pecha Berry House. As soon as the sun rose, they would be awake and off flying around to do missions and whatever else needed to be done for the Rescuers. Their morning personalities and hard work ethic were among the many reasons why Team Starstruck looked up to them and wanted to give a present to them so they could celebrate the Kyurem’s birthday, too.

Max quickly closed the box and wrapped it in a dark blue ribbon, trying to pacify an angry Bell. “Bell, Bell! Chill out. Those guys are always flying around. Once we see them, all we have to do is give it to them!”

“Assuming we can find them first…” she muttered.

She picked up the box and ran out the door, with Max hot on her heels.

Throughout the entire morning, they searched around all of Tao Village, looking up as much as they could for a glimpse of the elusive team. Finally, right when they were about to give up hope and go to Spinda’s Café for lunch, they both saw the two Elgyems flying from Meinfoo’s Dojo. One of them had a light green bow tie around her neck, while the other didn’t. There was no mistaking them. They were Team Elgyem.

"There they are!" shouted Bell.

Max and Bell ran up and shouted, "HEY! Team Elgyem! Down here!" while jumping up and down, waving wildly to get their attention.

Ligray and Rigley stopped in midair as they heard a pair of voices calling out their team name. Then they looked down and saw Bell and Max.

“Aw, c’mon…what now?” groaned Ligray. “We’re supposed to go double-check how big the stage is in the café.”

“Let’s listen to what they have to say, sis,” replied Rigley. “Maybe it won’t be too long.”

The Elgyems floated to the ground. Ligray tentatively asked, "Uh…hi?" After all, she didn’t exactly know this pair of Mincinno and Shinx. She remembered seeing them in the Rescuers’ clubhouse, but there were so many teams in there, she quickly forgot who was who. That is, if she was even told their names in the first place.

“Who are you guys?” asked Rigley. He, at least, was eager to find out.

“I’m Bell, and this is Max. We’re Team Starstruck!”

“Yeah, and we’re Rescuers like you!” added Max.

Ligray suspected as much. At least now she knew their names. Maybe she wouldn’t forget this time, or if she did, she hopefully wouldn’t have to see them again. She crossed her arms in a huff and said, a little curtly, “We’re kind of busy helping Amy and Chikorita with their upcoming performance, so can you make it quick here?”

Max’s eyes grew wide. “Wait…they’re going to have a performance? I want to see!”

"Me too, me too!” Then Bell remembered the box and continued, “Anyway, me and max wanted to give you a present!" She held the box out.

Ligray used Telekinesis to tentatively lift the box into the air, gazing at Team Starstruck in confusion. “Another present? Why? We barely know you.”

“Isn’t it obvious? You’re our inspiration! You always do so well on all of your missions and are serious about it! Mr. Mike said so himself!” Bell raved.

“Um…thanks?” said Ligray. She was sure that there were a lot of teams that looked to her and her brother for inspiration, though she didn’t care to tell Team Starstruck about how she and Rigley skipped the latest mission.

Rigley, however, was excited to receiving another present. “Ooo, ooo, sis! Let’s see what it is!”

He used his Telekinesis to unthread the bow and remove the covering on the box, and…

“AAAAAAAAAH!”

A swarm of fireworks flew out of the box in every direction. Some of them ended up exploding in the unfortunate Elgyems’ faces, and some of them flew all the way up to the sky and exploded there. Every eye in Tao Village was drawn the source of the maelstrom…even Kyurem’s.

“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! That’s not the gift, I swear!” shouted Max, completely freaked out.

“MAX! How’d our fireworks get IN there??” screeched Bell.

Ligray shouted, “Who cares!? SOMEONE STOP THESE THINGS!” She wasn’t sure how the fireworks were set to automatically go off like that, but she didn’t care. She had to get rid of them right then.

And she did.

By flinging the box (still full of active fireworks) directly at Team Starstruck.

“AAAAAH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO—”

RAK-O-VLAAAAM!

The fireworks exploded all over poor Bell and Max’s heads, and unlike the Elgyems, they were knocked out instantly. Luckily for them, there were no more fireworks to damage them further.

Ligray and Rigley teleported back inside the dojo before the doctors could arrive to inspect the scene of the explosion.

Amy and Chikorita were still rehearsing in the dojo, with Bisharp, Ralts and Lipless there helping keep time, when Ligray and Rigley teleported in.

“Whoa! What happened to you guys?” gasped Amy, completely messing up her song.

Ligray and Rigley knew they looked like a mess, and that they were completely charred from head to tail.

“Some sort of gift from Team Starstruck. Don’t ask,” replied Ligray.

“Literally,” added Rigley. “I mean, automatic-lighting fireworks? Seriously?”

Well, at least they wouldn’t forget Bell and Max anytime soon.

On the fourth day of giving, my new friends gave to me...
Four fireworks,
Three for Mike,
Two mattresses,
And a flood of a gifting spree!
